Influence Mapping the web

I came across an inspirational new idea – influence mapping the web. John Straw (a web innovator with a number of successes being him including www.netrank.co.uk) has set up a new company called Linkdex.

John’s idea behind influence mapping is that influence is a weighted collection of variables, typically Authority, Relevance, Popularity, and Citation. For each task that you are looking to get an influence map for, there will be a blend of those variables, i.e. the weightings attached to them will be different.

Currently we assess influence by the Mk1 eyeball and our own mental map, and with over 50billion pages online, finding the one that is really influential is almost impossible.

By re-indexing the web, Linkdex will create a deep and broad map of influence of the web that just does not exist currently. Linkdex will give you the tools to find out who is really influential by the criteria that you supply.

I had a sneak look at the Beta and it is awesome.

They’re looking for sites to sign-up for the beta to be indexed. Check-it out at www.linkdex.com or have a look at this blog by one of the brilliant minds involved: http://influencemapping.blogspot.com/
